About the Network

Welcome to HWIMWISnet!

spinningThis interdisciplinary network has been established by Dr Kimm Curran (Glasgow) and Dr Gillian Kenny (TCD) to bring together scholars interested in medieval gender history mainly with a focus on Ireland, Wales and Scotland. This has been done in order to establish regular and varied opportunities for interdisciplinary dialogue between researchers. From cultural, political and legal points of view the so called ‘Celtic’ countries of Ireland, Scotland and Wales have a shared past, albeit with regional differences. Because of the relative scarcity of sources, regional and interdisciplinary comparison is both necessary and welcome.

The interdisciplinary character of the network is highly valued and representatives of all disciplines are welcome. The network wishes to organize meetings and seeks to encourage its members to create new contacts and plan independent projects focusing on medieval gender history in Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The coordinators of the network therefore wish to assemble as broad and diverse a range of scholars as is possible, regardless of geographical location.

We also wish to create and maintain a digital base for online resources including blogs, podcasts, cfps; to create opportunities to translate scholarly dialogue and research into publications and to assist and support other scholars working to achieve goals which fit the parameters of the network.
